Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree (Malaleuca alternifolia) is found in the northeast coastal region of New South Wales, Australia. Its leaves are a valuable source of therapeutic oil - tea tree oil which has been used to clean open surgical wounds. It has significant antiseptic properties and is considered an ideal skin disinfectant against a range of organisms and is non irritating to the skin.

It has applications such as acne, apthous stomatitiis (canker sores), athlete's foot, boils, burns, carbuncles, corns, empyema, gingivitis, herpes, impetigo, infections of the nail gbed, insect bites, lice, mouth ulcers, psoriasis, root canal treatment, ringworm, sinus infections, sore throat, skin and vaginal infections, tinea, thrush, and tonsilitis. It has also found use in dog shampoo and dog ear-cleaning products because of its disindectant and cleansing qualities.

It is found in toothpastes, shampoos and conditioners, creams, hand and body lotions, soaps, gels, liniments, and nail polish removers. .
